Volunteer roles & responsibilities:
- Invigilating the Davies Gilder Gallery space - ensuring that the security of the art works are not compromised.
- Create a welcoming atmosphere for visitors, ensuring and maintaining the tidy and orderly appearance of the Gallery at all times.
- Signposting and encouraging visitors to sign the Visitor Book.
- Providing information about aspects of New House including the studio spaces, signposting visitors to the Info Packs and What’s On postcard flyers.
- Talking to visitors about the exhibition, and ensuring they have any resources or handouts that explain the exhibition.
- Help the front of house operations run smoothly and to a professional standard with the aim of encouraging return visits.
- Gaining knowledge about each exhibition by reading the related information to be able to answer general queries from the public.
- Taking contact details & reserving pieces for artwork sales
- Opening or closing the Gallery and New House building (depending on your time slot)
- Attend a Team Meeting at the beginning of every new exhibition.
- Being familiar with the evacuation procedures and be able to implement them in case of an emergency, assisting visitors and colleagues.
- Reporting any irregularities in the gallery, security, cleanliness, safety, immediately to the studio managerr.
Desired Skills & Experience:
A desire to gain experience in volunteering in an arts organisation.
An interest in engaging & inspiring people.
Experience of working in public-facing roles with a wide spectrum of members of the public.
A good command of spoken English

Excellent Communication skills
Flexible and reliable with a high level of professionalism
Enthusiastic about the arts
Ability to commit to 1-2 2hr shifts per exhibition
Standard invigilating timings:
11am – 4pm
Saturdays & Sundays
2 hour shifts per person
We try to pair volunteers together - if you’re signing up with a friend or relative, do let us know and we can ensure you have your shifts together.
The gallery is open from 10am – 6pm Monday – Friday.
On the weekends, the gallery space is open 11am – 4pm.
