Proposition
Cities are the future — smart and sustainable cities to be more precise. One of the biggest
characteristics of such cities is to reduce energy and operational costs while providing
reliable and efficient services. This is possible only if the cities are dense,
reducing the area to be covered in providing such services. Economic activity
too prospers in dense cities with mixed-use construction. Despite this, we are
seeing horizontal growth of cities in Pakistan. Affordability, lifestyle (living
in bigger houses) and less congestion are the primary reasons for people
preferring living in the urban peripheries. With the cost of
ownership/renting/living skyrocketing in urban cores, opting for a suburb/sprawl
becomes a logical choice.
