Oxford Physics Demonstrator Call 2023-24
Please register your interest to demonstrate within the Oxford Physics Teaching Labs using the form below.

- You must also be able to prove that you have a right to work in the UK: this will be checked with HR before you start.  You must be in the UK at the start of your demonstrating contract.

All new demonstrators for 2023-24 must attend some compulsory (paid) training:
a)  two half days of lectures on the mornings of 26th and 27th September 2023 (Preparing for Learning and Teaching at Oxford or PLTO)
b) training on the experiments in the Physics Department on 27th September and before term starts (week -1 and week 0).  We expect you to put in the equivalent of 2 full days of training before the start of term (9th October).

The above training is compulsory and if you cannot attend these sessions you will not be able to demonstrate.  The PLTO will occur in person in the Denys Wilkinson Building.  Certain labs will run b) remotely but most training will be in person.  You will be paid to attend the PLTO and for time spent training on the experiments.

We plan to run all labs in person, with the exception of Data Analysis and Computing which will run online.  We ask people to commit to demonstrating in a specific lab for the entire academic year if possible.  All the lab scripts can be found at https://www-teaching.physics.ox.ac.uk/practical_course/scripts/ if you want to see the type of practical work we ask the students to complete in each lab.

Labs will be allocated on a combination of first come, first served, and by matching people's skills to their choice of lab. Most people get allocated to one of their choices. This form will be updated as and when particular labs fill up, so please sign up quickly (if a lab is not listed, this means the quota for that lab has been filled).

Please note the schedules for each lab when making your choices and choose the labs that fits best with your schedule.
Choose your second choice lab *
Please note the schedules for each lab when making your choices and choose the labs that fits best with your schedule.
Choose your third choice lab *
Please note the schedules for each lab when making your choices and choose the labs that fits best with your schedule.
How many 3hr shifts would you like per week on average? *
Note, some labs roster demonstrators for a half day (3 or 3.5 hours) per week, others for a whole day less often. If you want to do more than one shift please say in the 'Any other comments' section whether you'd like this to be in one lab only or spread across your choices, or if you don't mind either way.
Any other comments or requests?
We understand schedules need to have some flexibility and detailed scheduling requests will be dealt with by Heads of Lab. If you know you will be away for a few weeks of the term, this can usually be dealt with by swaps. Please leave any further questions or notes below :
