Stories of Hope: Loneliness
This form leads you through the lesson for Wednesday, December 2. Since we are not having In-Person classes right now because Ward County is in the "Orange Risk Level", all students are expected to complete this form as part of the regular class. You can fill it out on your own, but it will be even more meaningful if you can have a parent or faith mentor join you in reflection and conversation. With so many people getting sick and needing to quarantine (perhaps this happened to you?) it is no surprise that many people are feeling lonely and isolated. However, it is possible to feel lonely even in the midst of a crowd. Have you ever noticed someone else who looks like they might be feeling lonely? What did you do? *

In this story story from 1 Kings, a prophet named Elijah has a great "God Moment" in the previous chapter and now the queen wants to kill him so he flees into the wilderness all by himself and gets really depressed. An angel appears and gives him a snack and he takes nap before he journeys to a mountain looking for God, who doesn't show up in mighty ways, but in the "sheer silence". What kind of things do you do to help find moments of silence? *

Even though we often think of the "church" as being a building, Ephesians (and lots of other places in the Bible) remind us that WE are the church. Even when we feel alone, we can find hope in the community of the church, because we are "citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God". What do you think are some similarities and differences between being a part of the church and being on a team or another group? (sports, band, drama, etc) *
