Approved Commercial Glaze List + Submission Form
Indigo Fire is opening the door to select commercial Cone 6 glazes! Independent Study students will be allowed to purchase and use their own jars of glaze from the pre-approved list below. This form also functions as a way to submit other commercial glaze lines for approval for use in the studio. Please read everything carefully, as purchasing and using the wrong commercial glaze can severely damage our kilns, the kiln shelves, and the work of other potters in the shared firing. If you are found to be using commercial glazes that are not approved by studio staff, you risk losing access to outside glazes altogether. These glazes are NOT to be layered over or under our studio glazes. Their consistency and stability will be compromised otherwise.

Pre-Approved Commercial Glaze Lines:
  • AMACO Celadon Glazes ( Cone 5 - Cone 6)
  • AMACO Potter's Choice Glazes (Cone 5 - Cone 6)
  • AMACO Satin Matte Glazes (Cone 5 - Cone 6)
  • MAYCO Stroke & Coat Wonderglaze (Cone 06 - Cone 10)


As of right now, these are the only glaze lines you are allowed to purchase from. You don't need to get approval for specific colors, so long as they are from these glaze lines. Commercial glazes are functionally different than our bucket-dipping glazes. They need to be applied with a brush, usually in several coats. These glazes are NOT to be layered over or under our studio glazes. Their consistency and stability will be compromised otherwise. We cannot attest to the food safety, runny-ness, vibrancy, or finish of any of these glazes on our clay bodies. If we find that any of these glazes aren't performing well or are actively damaging our kiln shelves, we will remove them from the approved list.

I have read the information above regarding outside glazes. I understand that they are applied differently than our regular studio bucket glazes. I understand that these glazes are NOT to be layered over or under our studio glazes. I understand that the jars I purchase are my responsibility, and they are not to be stored on communal shelving. I understand that I am only allowed to purchase glazes from the pre-approved Cone 5 - Cone 6 glaze lines above, and I must submit other glazes for approval before I can use them. I understand that purchasing and using the wrong glaze can damage the kilns, shelves, and work of other potters. I understand that if I am found to be using glazes that have not been approved, I will lose access to commercial glazes altogether. I understand that continued misuse of commercial glazes resulting in kiln damages is also grounds for losing access to them.
