Introduction to Empowering Peace & Justice Education: Five Peace Actions

Calling all elementary educators, leaders, pre-service teachers and homeschoolers! Join a Peacelearning Cohort to begin your implementation of Empowering Peace & Justice Education. This guidebook offers hope-filled and actionable strategies to embed peace education in your life, classroom and school culture. Your facilitators, authors Julie Lillie and Carey Seeley Dzierzak have over 40 years combined experience in education!

Featuring over 100 lessons and practices, the book emphasizes literacy integration, culturally relevant pedagogy, trauma informed care and co-creating brave, democratic spaces for a more just and peaceful world. The framework centers Five Peace Actions:

  • Seek Peace Within Yourself and Others
  • Respect Diversity

  • Protect Our Environment

  • Reach Out In Service

  • Be A Responsible Citizen Of The World

Fee Structure: In an effort to keep this important work accessible for as many educators and leaders as possible, we are offering a sliding scale and keeping out of pocket costs minimal. (Actual cost value $350)

  • 6 hours (4 sessions @1.5 hrs each) of expert-led professional learning & collaboration
  • Virtual - via ZOOM
  • Per Person Total Cost = $50 for pre-service teachers | $100 if paying on your own | $200 if your school/organization is paying on your behalf
  • Our friend's at World Citizen Peace have offered two scholarships (details below)
  • Certificate of Completion will be provided (for Continuing Education Units for areas such as literacy, social justice, equity, social emotional learning)

This Walter Enloe Scholarship is for 2 participants to attend the cohort for free ($150 value each). You will still need to buy the e(book). We recommend this scholarship for classroom educators in their first three years of teaching, though all may apply.

If you would like to be considered for this scholarship, please provide a brief explanation of how this award will support you in participating in the cohort. Please also comment on how you believe this cohort will help you implement peace education with children and why you believe this is important. (~3-5 sentences max)
