June 7-9 Historical Memory Gathering

The Lafayette Community Remembrance Project (LCRP), based in Oxford, Mississippi, invites you and others from your community to a gathering on June 7-9, 2024. This will be a space to connect different Mississippi communities doing racial injustice memorialization work and to serve as a learning space for those interested in such a process.

With this gathering, we hope to grow a robust community of practice around memorialization and historical memory work in Mississippi. The program will be structured around three questions: Why memorialization and historical memory work is important; What memorialization and historical memory work is currently happening in communities across Mississippi; and How can communities across Mississippi start, grow, and sustain memorialization and historical memory work in their home counties?

The gathering will begin the evening of June 7th and conclude early afternoon on June 9th. It will feature an opening keynote address and dinner, panels and workshops, a film series, sites of memory tours in Lafayette County, and a closing address and community interfaith worship service.
