The Department of Landscape Architecture may offer recruitment scholarships to admitted applicants. These scholarships are allocated to the Department by the College of Built Environments and vary from year to year. They are one-time awards disbursed in the first year of study. The awards range from a couple hundred dollars to several thousand dollars. The criteria varies per scholarship.
There is not a separate application to complete. All applicants who are offered admission are automatically considered for recruitment scholarships. Our admissions committee identifies the candidates which fit the scholarship criteria.
The initial notification period for scholarships is early March to mid April.
If any of those scholarships are declined, the next notification period is mid-April to early June.
Financial Aid awards are separate from admissions scholarships awarded by an academic unit. For assistance in interpreting your financial aid award from the UW, please contact the
UW Office of Student Financial Aid.
If we are not able to offer a recruitment scholarship to you, here are other funding opportunities available to enrolled students:
Other Funding Opportunities:Each spring, MLA students can apply for Departmental scholarships for their next year in the program. These are one-time awards that are applied to the recipients’ tuition accounts in the following year of study. Scholarships vary each year, but typically range from $500 – $5,000.
Student JobsThe Department and College post several student jobs each year. Most of these are hourly paid positions which pay $20/hour but there are also a few opportunities for TA/RA ships which would waive tuition and offer student health insurance for the quarter the student is hired. Faculty prefer to hire students who are in their final year of study for TA/RA positions – after they have completed the core studios/coursework.
For Department jobs, students submit an application in spring for employment the following year, preference is given to students who are Work-Study eligible.
Work Study: To qualify for Work-Study jobs, students must be US residents, demonstrate financial need and have a Work-Study award as part of your overall financial aid award. To determine work-study eligibility, a FAFSA must be submitted. All questions regarding work-study eligibility should be directed to the UW Office of Student Financial Aid.
