Transparent Assignment Design: A FacDev -- Learning Resource Center (LRC) Collaboration - Spring 2024

The Transparent Assignments Series is designed to support you through the process of revising an assignment so that more students can succeed in your course. Please join the Learning Resource Center (LRC) and Faculty Development for a four-part series as we work toward creating more transparent writing prompts, better scaffolding, and more effective collaborations between instructors and the Writing Center.

This program promotes student writing improvement across the disciplines and at all levels through the use of an evidence-based assignment template, which has been shown to reduce gaps in retention rates among first-generation students.

Faculty who successfully complete all series activities will receive funding of $200.  Please note that faculty are welcome to complete the series multiple times, but are only able to receive funding once.

What does full participation in the Transparent Assignments Series include?

1) Complete the online, asynchronous Get Up to Speed with Transparency in Teaching Canvas course.

2) Attend and fully engage in (including keeping camera on) the three series workshops and the final one-on-one meeting. Program dates are the following:

  • February 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. with the option to attend in-person or via Zoom
  • March 5 and 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. via Zoom
  • March 26 between 2 and 4 p.m. for a 30-minute one-on-one meeting via Zoom

3) Work with a writing instructor from the Learning Resource Center to modify your assignment guidelines in one of your spring courses using our easy template.
