Ukarimu is a project by EyeOpener Initiative and Mango Tree and supported by the Uganda Hotel Owners Association, Tripesa, Matoke Tours and the E4D programme of GIZ. Ukarimu provides practical and relevant trainings in the Ugandan tourism & hospitality sector.
This training is focusing on tourism companies that offer concrete activities such as cultural tours, mountain bike or boda-boda tours, museum tours, culinary experiences, etc. It is not meant for general tour operators or accommodation providers. The focus of the training is on topics such as product development, guiding, customer service, financial management and marketing.
The training will take place in Jinja and consists of 9 training days, starting on March 14th 2022 and. It will consists of 4+5 days, followed by 2 weeks work-based learning and then a 4 day closure training and assessment. Often you are expected to do additional homework. It is not an ordinary training, as you will have to participate actively during every part of the training. At the end of the training you will be assessed and when you pass, you will receive an Ukarimu certificate.
By participating in the training you will:
- Receive high-quality, intensive training from various experts
- Participate in a training that is tailor-made for activity providers
- Get help to professionalize your company
- Get the chance to build a network with like minded professionals
You are expected to pay a commitment fee of 100,000 ugx per person before the training starts. Accommodation and meals will be covered by the program during the class-based training, but you need to arrange your own transport. You are required to be present and actively engage at every day of the training.
The deadline of applications is on 12th April 2022, after which the announcements on the participants will follow shortly.
The ideal participant:
- Is highly motivated to improve his/her skills and professionalize his/her company
- Is ideally 25 years or younger - not compulsory (however, a number of spots will be open specifically for women under 25)
- Is an entrepreneur or has a high position at the company
- Is highly motivated and dedicated to the programme
- Has a passion for tourism and traveling
- Has the right attitude (honest, eager to learn, willing to help classmates, committed, etc.)
- Commits to all elements of the program (compulsory!)
