SYLLABUS AGREEMENTS: I have read the syllabus (found in the welcome letter) and understand the following policies.

GRADING - We use a rubric to grade the overall quality of your work, which shifts the focus of our class from how many points you get to content mastery. This way we can have better conversations about where you are strong and where we can support your growth as a student. You will be assessed using a variety of methods including labs, projects, tests, quizzes, and more. The overall grade is split between assessment and classwork. Classwork is the daily practice we do. It is worth 30% of your overall grade. Assessment activities are where you demonstrate your understanding of the standards. These are worth 70% of your overall grade.

This is the general rubric. More details will be provided with each assessment so that you can better understand your score.

SCORE IMPROVEMENT - If you’re not happy with your score, don’t worry, you can fix it! You have the opportunity to improve your score on assignments and assessments by attending office hours or by appointment. Just make an appointment with me using Student/Parent Square Messages, Google Hangouts or email abliss@slusd.us.

ATTENDANCE AND ABSENCES - This year there is no option to stay home and attend class virtually. You must be physically present in class. If you know you are going to be absent, notify me in advance, if possible. If your absence is excused you may turn in missing assignments for full credit. It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to check Schoology for the previous day’s assignment and get any notes you may have missed from a classmate. If you cut class, you will receive no credit (0pts) for work that you miss and you will not be able to make it up without a teacher conference. This includes tests and quizzes. If you are more than 20 minutes late to class without a pass you will be marked absent. PLEASE BE ON TIME. With classes on both campuses it is very easy to be late for class. You must hustle and spend minimal time chatting and hanging around. Frequent tardies or absences will initiate a teacher conference. If you are more than 20 minutes late to class without a pass you will be marked absent.

LATE WORK - While students are expected to turn all work in complete by the due date, I understand that life is very challenging right now. I am here to support your learning and help you be successful. I do accept late work but you MUST first communicate with me that you are struggling with a deadline so we can work out a new one. Please make sure if you are behind and need help to contact me right away BEFORE the work is due. I am happy to work with you but we must set up clear prior arrangements for a new due date and make sure you have all the support you need to complete the assignment. Please note that some activities, like group projects, may not be able to be made up unless an extension is granted. **Extensions MUST be arranged PRIOR to the due date in writing.**

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY

BEHAVIOR - Students are expected to behave appropriately as if they were in a physical classroom. Follow directions from your instructor, be prepared for class, participate to the best of your ability and treat others with respect and kindness. This applies during both live sessions and on message boards and comment sections of learning materials. Principals, parents and guardians will be contacted if deemed necessary by the teacher.

OPTIONAL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY - If you work in a field that relates to science, engineering, math, medicine, art or technology, ARE YOU WILLING to talk with me via phone, email, or Class Zoom as a guest expert in your field? Briefly describe how you would be willing to get involved.

Throughout the year, student will do research projects and present their findings to an audience. It is my goal to provide students with access to relevant experts from a variety of careers to interview and consult from time to time. Experts may also be asked to explain content, advise groups, or critique student work from their unique professional perspective. You would always receive contact from the teacher first to check your availability prior to any form of supervised student interaction.
