STOP: Crimes Against Female Journalists
In Asia, as elsewhere, crimes against female journalists include physical attacks, harassment, abuses, and other gender-based violence. However, often complaints into these crimes against female journalists are not properly investigated and prosecuted. This has given rise to impunity, spiking even more attacks on female journalists. The result is a climate of fear among female media professionals even as they struggle to independently report on the news. To mark International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, Asia Centre, in partnership with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation Southeast and East Asia, Taiwan Foundation for Democracy (TFD) and EngageMedia will convene a panel of female journalists to discuss violence against journalists, outline measures that can be taken to ensure their safety and steps to prosecute the perpetrators.
