Thank you SO much for your interest in having me visit your classroom or school via ZOOM or in-person!

WHERE WILDFLOWERS GROW, released on June 13, 2024, is based on my memories of living in a refugee camp in the Philippines as a child before my family and I were sponsored to emigrate to the United States from Vietnam. It follows Hà in her final moments at camp as she tries to hold onto her best friend and the simple life that she loves, while embracing a new future ahead.

To help bring this story to life, I would love to visit your class or school!

My presentations will consist of either a ZOOM meeting or in-person presentations, which will cover my inspiration for the story, my writing process, how to play the Vietnamese childhood game in the story, what it’s like being an author, and lessons that I have learned that can help young writers to keep writing and believing in their voice.

Please note that only schools in DFW Area will not have to pay travel fees.

Option 1: HOW I BECAME AN AUTHOR- This presentation will cover how I came to America, struggled to learn English, fell in love with books and writing, and grew up to become a writer and wrote my debut picture book, WHERE WILDFLOWERS GROW. Focus is on writing from your heart and following your dreams.

Option 2: WRITING FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF A CHILD NEW TO THE COUNTRY- This presentation will cover how I used my memories and experience of being a child refugee and growing up in America to write my picture book, WHERE WILDFLOWERS GROW. Focus is on persevering, taking risks, being brave, and following your dreams.
