The Rotary Club of Kirksville – North Star is excited to announce their highly anticipated community event and fundraiser, Missouri’s North Star BBQ for Books. We are looking for some participants to compete at the event! We anticipate a crowd ranging from 400-600 people and plan to award the winning teams with prize money. • Teams must pay an Entry Fee of $75 to compete at the event
• Teams will need to bring their own materials, equipment, and will need to serve a minimum of 35 pounds of meat.
• All teams will cook pork butt to be eligible to win prize money.
• One ounce sample cups will be provided and used to distribute to those attending the event (Keep in mind we anticipate 400-600 people. One ounce sample to each attendant will add up to around 35 pounds of meat needed for the event). We will also provide forks and napkins for distribution.
• Prize Money will be award in 2 categories. The first category will be Kirksville’s Best BBQ (Voted by our celebrity judges) and the second category, People’s Choice Award (Voted for by the people of Kirksville): Kirksville’s Best BBQ prize money will be 1st Place $600, 2nd Place $400, 3rd Place $200 and the People’s Choice Awards will be 1st Place $500, 2nd place $200 and 3rd place $100.
• The competition will include no more than 12 teams
• Each team will need to have their own clean up station per health code standards (See safety guidelines link on website for more info)
• Team check in begins at 6:00 a.m., serving for Kirksville’s Best BBQ will begin at 5:00 p.m., and sampling for People’s Choice will begin at 5:30 p.m. Awards will be presented between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.
