Briefly describe how the vision and mission of your school aligns with this project. *
Briefly describe the status of Strategies That Engage Minds (the definition of STEM that will be used in this project) at your school - please include specific references to the work the school has done to experiment with items such as student-centered learning, personalized learning, project or problem-based learning (PBL), inquiry learning, etc. and how these activities are being integrated into routine teaching and learning practices. *
Describe any difficulties or roadblocks your school has experienced in the past 3-5 years regarding sustained implementation of STEM and PBL instruction practices. What is at least one pragmatic solution you would like to implement in order to address these problems? *
What are your district's and/or school's goals for 2019-20 that are specifically aligned with the objectives of this project? *
If your school is selected for this cohort, you will be required to send a team of 3-5 individuals to each professional development session, including at least one member of the school administration/leadership team. What roles would be represented in this team and why is this team make-up essential for your school's success in this project? *
Look at the outcomes specified in the RISE description and identify the top two that best aligns and resonates with the strategic direction of your school community? Please explain your reasoning for choosing these outcomes, including why you think your school can ensure their success. *
This project will be open to all public schools in North Carolina, with a rigorous selection process to select six schools for the initial cohort. Given this highly selective process, is your school administration supportive of this year-long project to create the cultural foundation where student centered STEM and PBL can thrive? *
Required
Please note that this project is not targeting schools that already have strong STEM and PBL systems in place. Rather, it is focused on schools that want to create cultural conditions that will enable these innovative teaching and learning practices to be implemented and sustained. What evidence can you cite that proves your school is committed to building this culture? *
Given the highly selective nature of this project, we want to ensure that the schools who are in this first cohort are indeed committed to participate and contribute to all aspects of the project. Thus, I understand that if selected, our school will be expected to meet the commitment requirements as specified in the RISE description document. *
Required
Please list any questions or other considerations the selection committee should consider in determining if your school will be part of this first cohort: *
