WQED's Film Academy is a youth education program in digital media arts and filmmaking. The Academy is open to 9th graders through 12th graders.
The Fall 2022 virtual program runs from September 26th through December 21st 2022, for three days each week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) from 4:30pm-6pm, on Zoom*. Students will be given an additional 3-5 hours of independent project time per week to complete on their own time. WQED Film Academy will not be in session on Monday, October 10th, Friday, November 11th and the week of November 21st due to the holiday.
The cost of the program is $2,500 per student. This cost includes a "film at home" kit (valued at $600) that students will get to keep! Financial assistance is available due to the generous support from foundations and the Pittsburgh community. A $200 non-refundable deposit is due at the time of registration to secure a spot.
Financial assistance recipients are NOT required to provide a deposit, but confirmation via email or phone is necessary to claim the spot. The deposit will go towards the remaining balance that is due at the start of the session. Payment plans are available.
If applying for full scholarships, this application is due Tuesday September 13th, 2022.
WQED Film Academy uses a rolling admissions process and will notify all applicants of their application status within 2 weeks prior to the start of the semester. At that time, applicants will also be notified of financial assistance awarded, if applicable. Limited spaces are available in each session.
