How did you hear about SongRise? *
Do you have experience with the following?
Members are expected to pitch in to help keep the group both fun and productive. We'd love to know more about what experience or skills you may have related to the following areas. Please check all that apply and if you wish, you can elaborate under "Other."
What, if any, organized singing experience do you have? *
Some members of SongRise were active in prior singing groups, and some only sang in the shower prior to joining us.
Do you think you have a higher, middle, or lower voice? *
If you have thoughts about your voice part (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) please elaborate under "Other."
Required
What social justice issue(s) do you feel most passionate about? *
SongRise sings about a variety of social justice issues. Topics we cover include: LGBTQIA+ rights, religious freedom, civil rights, women's rights, environmental issues, and more. Are you open to singing about this wide breadth of issues and campaigns that SongRise's repertoire and gigs cover? *

How often do you travel for work or life? *

For how long do you anticipate staying in the DC area? *
Some members of SongRise are here in DC permanently and others are not. This question helps us get a sense of how the size of the group might change over time.
Are you willing and able to commit to SongRise for at least one year (July 2019-July 2020)? * *
This includes Tuesday rehearsals and several gigs per month (unless you are traveling for work or vacation). We are a volunteer-run group, and our members commit to spending anywhere from 1-5 hours per month organizing gigs, arranging songs, promoting our performances, and/or supporting in other ways to help the group run smoothly. In support of group growth and cohesion, we hold two retreats a year focused on music and bonding. We hold a summer and winter concert and try to include most of the group in these concerts. We hold 3 weeks of intensive rehearsals for new members after they are selected. We also organize a variety of social events (attendance encouraged and welcomed! but optional).
Are you available to rehearse on Tuesday evenings (6:45 PM - 8:45 PM) near Dupont Circle? *
High attendance is important to building camaraderie and ensuring the quality of our sound at SongRise. This includes a song-learning "boot camp" this summer that may involve additional rehearsal time and song-learning from recordings outside of rehearsal. If you select "no" please share the dates you anticipate being absent.
SongRise generally performs in all parts of the District and the DC metro area. Are you comfortable traveling by public transit to neighborhoods in/around DC that may not be familiar to you? *
Optional: SongRise members are united by a commitment to social justice and a love of singing. We are diverse in many ways: race, religion (or lack thereof), sexual orientation, geographic background, socio-economic background, educational background, profession, employment status, marital/partner status, parenthood status, national origin, and others. If you feel comfortable sharing with us, do you envision yourself as diverse in any of these or other ways?
