Promoting Positive Behaviour Feedback
Between May and June, over the course of 4 weeks, as part of our focus on promoting positive behaviour, we trialled a new approach to behaviour management. The aim of this was to create a consistent behaviour management system across the school where expectations in each Faculty are shared with pupils.

The focus for this was based on one of our core values: Be Responsible. From this, we have focussed on 4 key areas, which are detailed below:
On Time: Pupils should be on time for class. If a pupil is late because they have taken their time getting to class they should be demerited. If a pupil is late as they have been held back by another teacher, they will be given a late slip to explain this.
Be Ready: Pupils should be ready to learn. Pupils should not be demerited for forgetting a pencil or other stationery, however, they should be demerited if they wait until the lesson has started to ask for the equipment necessary to complete work in the lesson. Pupils should also ensure they have the appropriate resources for class.
Electronics away: Electronics should only be used in class when directed by the teacher. Pupils can use electronic devices in tutor time for reading only, on reading days, or if directed by the teacher in class. If this is abused, devices should be removed and pupils should be demerited. Pupils should be asked to put the device away in their bag or put it on the teacher’s desk. This is to ensure pupils receive the best possible learning experience, free from distractions.
Uniform: Pupils should arrive at class with their full uniform, including blazer. If pupils do not have their blazer on when they arrive at your class, they should be asked to put it on before entering the class. They should not receive a demerit for this unless they refuse to follow your instruction.
Uniform will only be demerited at tutor time. Please do not demerit uniform at any other time throughout the day.
Pupils who do not have an item of uniform for a specific reason will be given a pink slip from SLT/Pupil Support that they should carry with them. e.g. not getting black shoes until the start of next term. Tutor teachers should not demerit pupils if they have a signed card.

Pupils started off with 100 merits and had to retain 90% of their merits to be considered for the rewards session in the last week of term.

This has had a positive impact in classrooms, with pupils taking greater responsibility for their own learning. It has also had a positive impact on uniform.

Following this trial, we would like to ask parent/carers to complete a short survey based on this. The questions for this are below:

What do you like about this approach?
What could be improved regarding this new approach?
Any other comments?
Please leave your email if you would consider being part of a focus group in the future.
