STEMULATE Application Form
Please submit this application by 11:59pm on March 10, 2023.

STEMULATE (STEM Undergraduate Learning and Teaching Empowerment) is a new program in the UC San Diego CREATE STEM Success Initiative (CSSI) and is financially supported by the generosity of the San Diego Foundation.

STEMULATE aims to purposefully create co-curricular and extracurricular “STEM opportunity structures” within San Diego for two populations: primarily, 1) community college students from underrepresented backgrounds and pursuing STEM degrees; and, secondarily, 2) low-income, URM, potentially STEM-interested K12 students to help inspire them towards STEM majors. STEM opportunity structures -- opportunities to learn and engage outside the classroom -- have been shown to improve URM, low-income students’ persistence and success in STEM fields.

STEMULATE will deliberately create these structures by engaging and training community college students in spring STEM outreach experiences to K12 students, and create and provide community college participants paid summer STEM industry/ research internships.

Selected applicants will be required (and receive academic credit where possible) to assist with coordinated STEM outreach efforts (Spring 2023) and in turn receive a paid ($4,500) 10-week STEM industry/research internship during Summer 2023.

NOTE: One letter of recommendation (from a current or previous professor) is required for full consideration. Please submit letter to sldyer@ucsd.edu.
