The Outsiders: Ponyboy Curtis is fourteen years old and lives with his two older brothers in Tulsa, Oklahoma, during the 1960s. Because the Curtis brothers' parents died, the boys are very poor and struggle to stay together. One day when Ponyboy is walking home from the movies, a group of wealthy teenagers from the other side of town attack him. Although Ponyboy's friends chase the wealthy teens, known as the Socials, away, the wealthy boys hold a grudge. A few nights later, Ponyboy and his friend Johnny encounter the same Socials in a park. A fight ensues, and to save Ponyboy's life, Johnny stabs one of the Socials, a boy named Bob. Afraid of what will happen to them, Ponyboy and Johnny flee and hide out in an abandoned church. When a fire breaks out in the church, Johnny rescues some children who are trapped inside. In the process Johnny is gravely injured.
