SUMMER ACADEMY ELIGIBILITY:

To apply for participation in the USD 311 Summer Academy, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Show evidence of good academic standing during the 23-24 school year:

    •   students need to be passing all core content areas

  • Show evidence of positive behavior while at school*

      •   students need to have less than 3 office referrals during the 23-24 school year

  • Show commitment to the program in its entirety

  • Have access to transportation to and from daily sessions; district transportation will not be offered.

*Building principals will have this information and will contact students affected after pre-enrollment

Course Descriptions for Summer Academy:

Each student must choose at least 1 academic course (indicated by the *) when pre-enrolling. Final enrollment will be based on student interest for each course. Individual schedules will be sent out prior to June 1 for each Summer Academy student.

K- 2nd Grade Options

*K-2 Book Club/Phonics:  The students will be grouped by reading level to read books and play comprehension games to improve literacy.

*K-2 Science/Coding Club:  The students will learn the basics of computer coding as well as be introduced to cool science experiments!

*K-2 Math Club:  The students will play math games and work on memorizing basic math facts for their grade level. 

*K-2 Research Project: The students will learn the basics of acquiring information about interesting topics and presenting what they learn.  

K-2 Sports Workout:  The students will learn the basics of a variety of different sports- getting in a nice workout too!

K-2 Board Games/ Puzzles:  The students will learn to play board games and put together puzzles.

K-2 Social Skills/ Yoga: The students will practice social situations and how to act responsibly and appropriately. They will also learn breathing exercises and stretching techniques to help balance their emotional well-being.


3rd - 8th Grade Options
Students will be grouped in age divisions determined by pre-enrollment numbers

*3-8 Book Club: The students will be grouped by reading levels and spend time reading and discussing a novel. 

*3-8 Research Project: The students will learn the basics of internet research and explore topics with the guidance of their instructor. Presentations will be the final project for this class. 

*3-8 School Store: The students will learn the basics of a small business entrepreneurship and business math while they create items to price and sell during the final week of Summer Academy. 

*3-8 Engineering: The students will learn problem solving strategies, the basics of coding with robotics and 3D printing.

3-8 Speed & Agility : The students will learn running techniques and complete agility drills to make them more explosive and flexible.

3-8 Baking/Cooking: The students will learn basic baking and cooking skills. They will get to taste test their creations!

3-8 Basketball 101: The students will spend time with basketball skill instructors, learn drills and play games. 

3-8 Golf 101: The students will spend time with golf skill instructors, learn drills and play games. 

3-8 Volleyball 101: The students will spend time with volleyball skill instructors, learn drills and play games. 

3-8 Flag Football 101: The students will spend time with football skill instructors, learn drills and play games. 

3-8 Gardening/ Landscaping: The students will learn the basics of planting flowers and bushes as well as beautifying with mulch for projects around town.

3-8 Painting: The students will be able to explore the world of art through painting.

If there are overwhelming numbers in certain classes, multiple sessions will be offered to accommodate all enrollments!
