Our undergraduate research assistants typically spend most of their time doing the following tasks: using psycINFO and google scholar to find psychological journal articles, composing written summaries of of published articles, helping to recruit participants for our survey studies via the internet, proofreading and creating APA-style reference lists for the journal articles we are writing, attending lab meetings and hearing how the research team co-develops study ideas and troubleshoots study decisions, and shadowing graduate students as they do advanced research tasks such as data analysis.  Are these the sorts of tasks that you are interested in getting more experience with?

In 3-10 sentences, answer the following prompts.  What is your motivation for wanting to be an undergraduate research assistant in the HAMMER Lab?  What do you hope to get out of it and how will this help you with your future career?
Is there anything else about your application, your experiences, your aspirations, or who you are as a person that you'd like us to know about you?  For example, this could include information about how you see your cultural identities (e.g., gender, race, socioeconomic status) and values shaping your interest in the position.
Please email Dr. Hammer (joe.hammer@uky.edu) an APA-style research paper that is at least 3 pages in length and includes a reference list at the end.  He wants to get a sense of the quality of your academic writing by looking at this writing sample. If you don't have an APA-style paper, submit another type of paper that showcases your command of written English.  Please confirm that you have emailed him such a paper.

Next Steps
Thank you for submitting an application.  Here is what happens next.

We start reviewing applications around March 20 (for fall 395) and October 20 (for spring 395) of each year, though we continue to review applications submitted after these dates until we have filled all available RA positions.  The strongest applicants will be invited to a 30-minute internship interview. Keep an eye out for an email from us in the weeks following the aforementioned date regarding whether you will be granted an interview or not.
