UNITAR Lectures and Training:

Students of The New York Graduate Plan will study diplomacy directly from working with diplomats in addition to exploring the Sustainable Development Goals proposed by the UN-2030 Agenda. Lectures will be given online via Zoom and recorded for the benefit of each student to later review as they see fit. Each class will focus on specific international issues the United Nations has current involvement in. Students can expect to interact with UNITAR staff and professors to ensure their comprehension of the topics. Students of The New York Graduate Plan will receive a certificate from the United Nations upon successful completion of their training.

UNITAR Lectures and Training will heavily focus on the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in addition to studying best practices for the Sustainable Development Goals to be implemented in society. Other topics of study include: United Nations 101, Regional Organizations and Conflict Resolution, Democracy and the Pillars of United Nations Work, Responsibility to Protect (R2P), Women, Peace and Security, International Criminal Justice, and Climate Change and the Paris Agreement.

Weekly Workshops and Training with Nonviolence International New York:

In addition to learning how to implement the values of the Sustainable Development Goals, students will be trained in peacebuilding, nonviolent action, and nonviolent communication. Trainings and values regarding the concept of nonviolence are the sole property and original authorship of Nonviolence International New York and have been carefully crafted through the organization’s own research.

In the third and final month of the program, students will be required to complete Field Training with Nonviolence International New York. Students will complete 80+ hours of work either directly supporting a civil society organization in Nonviolence International's network, engage in building workshops focused on practical peacebuilding, or develop their own 15 page research paper on a course topic to be published by both Nonviolence International New York and UNITAR.
In every facet of the program, students must apply their knowledge of peacebuilding, nonviolent action, and nonviolent communication as well as the Sustainable Development Goals.

In the framework of this program, students will:
•Advocate for stakeholder issues online the United Nations
•Immerse themselves in a multinational context
•Participate closely with NGOs and the UN
•Actively familiarize themselves with global issues
•Work toward sustainable solutions to international problems through creative ideas and innovative projects
•Receive a diploma from the United Nations
•Become ambassadors of youth for peace
•Perfect and complete their school year through an internship

The NYGP will open its doors in September 2020, and offers three trimesters per year composed of 22 to 35 students
