Secondary students break the mold of traditional school productions as they turn their auditorium into a world-class opera house.
Arts and education meet at our In-School Opera Workshops. Weeks spent with LA Opera artists fly by as students sharpen their performance skills and perform a full-scale opera (and master some Common Core and VAPA standards, too). This fall, students will perform
Orpheus – the gripping Greek tale of love, devotion, and selfishness, retold in the modern age of rock stars. Founded in a great work of literature (
Metamorphoses by Ovid), this is a superb way to integrate the arts into the overall curriculum and an example of how easily the classics can be applied to daily life.
Students perform with professional opera singers, musicians, sets, and lighting and stage crew from LA Opera.
Covers Common Core Standards and VAPA standards.
