Phonics Star Trick
Pro Level-Phonics-Trick Phonics Star

Information: Small group tutoring sessions (3-4 children)

Dates: Thursday and Friday, 22nd June-25th Aug for 10 weeks

TIme: 5:30-6 pm

Where: Lessons are taught online via Zoom

In this phase, your child will:
  • develop automatic reading and spelling of words that can’t be successfully sounded out, like one and eight (often called tricky words)
  • explore alternative sounds by looking at clusters of same sound/different spelling words together, like ee in feet,  ea in dream,  ey in key  and e_e in athlete  

  • explore the concept of words with the same sound, different meaning, and different spelling, like bare (bare feet) or bear (grizzly bear)

  • have fun with different kinds of activities to reinforce all the skills they learn
  • reflect on learning (metacognition) to self-identify successes and areas to work on
  • start to explore reading for pleasure
  • develop strategies to practice, learn and self-check spellings
This is the pro level for the Jigsaw Phonics programme. This level is for children who have successfully completed the Wug phase, or have learnt Phase 2, 3 and 4 at school or home.  During the Trick phase, your child will be ready to start learning to read tricky words, and can begin to monitor their own writing (self-correct). Your child will receive a certificate for participation and a monthly progress report.
