ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
This workshop will cover basic lighting design concepts and how to draw a simple light plot, as well as discussion of ways to maximize the lighting available in your space. We will discuss "cueing" a show, and working with directors, other designers, and stage management. We will also discuss the fixtures that you have and how to properly "hang and focus" fixtures.
WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR?
Anyone interested in learning the basics about theatrical lighting, or brushing up their current knowledge and skills. This workshop is also helpful for directors and stage managers! Previous lighting experience not required.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER
Michael P. Kittel has designed over 350 productions in the Twin Cites since 1995. As Resident Designer at Park Square Theatre, he has lit over 200 productions. Favorites include: The Color Purple, Behind The Eye, Great Expectations, Ragtime, and many others. Mike has worked with many other companies including: Frank Theatre, Workhaus Collective, Ordway Music Theatre, Stages Theatre Company, Bloomington Civic Theatre, Steppingstone, Macalester College, St Olaf College, and UW-River Falls theatres. Mike is a two-time winner of Lavendar Magazine’s Best Lighting Design Award as well as a shared Ivey Award winner for Frank Theatres’ The Pillowman.
