What is a bio-blitz?
A bioblitz is an intensive survey that aims to identify and record as many species of plants, animals, fungi, and other organisms as possible within a designated area over a short period of time, typically 24 hours or less. The primary goal of a bioblitz is to increase awareness and understanding of biodiversity in a specific location, often a park, nature reserve, or urban area.
During a bioblitz, scientists, naturalists, students, and volunteers work together to observe, identify, and document species using various methods such as visual observation, photography, specimen collection, and DNA analysis. These events often involve a range of activities including guided walks, talks by experts, workshops on species identification, and educational programs for participants of all ages.
