Interested in volunteering for U-FIT Spring 2023?

U-FIT is an adapted physical activity program designed for children and youth with disabilities. U-FIT programming provides physical activities in a fun, non-competitive atmosphere that will help individuals reach their goals! By working alongside skilled volunteers, the program is designed to build friendships, increase self-esteem, improve motor skills and levels of physical fitness while ultimately having fun in a nurturing environment. Children involved in the program range in age from 3 to 18 years old and have a wide variety of disabilities. Participants receive individual instruction from trained volunteers and students at the University of Utah.

Programming for U-FIT Spring 2023 is centered on meaningful movement and enrichment activities (i.e, dance, swimming, and sports) via in-person sessions. Program sessions are held on Friday evenings from 5:45 pm to 7:45 pm in HPER West. Important volunteer and program dates are as followed:

U-FIT Session Dates:

February 1st (Orientation at HPER West, 6:00 - 8:00 pm)

February 24th

April 7th

*Volunteers will be required to complete a background check if they have not completed one through the university in the past THREE years. This fee will be covered by the U-FIT program. For those that need to complete a background check, you will receive a link (via email) from the university's human resources department that contains directions for completing the background check. Check your inboxes regularly for that link.  

*Volunteers will be required to complete the Youth Protection and Program Support training in order to be involved in U-FIT (https://utah.catalog.instructure.com/browse/ce/ypps/courses/safety-of-minors-policy-training). The certificate must be emailed to ufitvolunteer@utah.edu once completed. THE YPSS PROGRAM TRAINING AND CERTIFICATE MUST BE COMPLETED BY FEBRUARY 3rd. YOU CANNOT PARTICIPATE IF WE DO NOT HAVE THIS TRAINING! - If you completed this training in the Fall of 2021, Spring of 2022, or the Fall of 2022, you do not need to complete the training again.

*Volunteers who are participating in U-FIT for a university course or CEL credits will be required to complete additional CEL assignments outlined by the course instructor*
