In 2000, the Latinx History Project, formerly known as the Latino GLBT History Project, was founded to collect, preserve and share Latinx LQBTQ history. Since its inception, it has served as a force that builds community, spreads compassion and fights for equity within and for the Latinx LGBTQ community.

Here, you will find a range of volunteer opportunities across our programs that you can select to support with your time. Volunteers are accepted on a rolling basis, and can expect to get quarterly or monthly engagement opportunities depending on the volunteer interests you've selected.

DC Latinx Pride (April-July) DC Latinx Pride is a staple program of the Latinx History Project. The parade, festival, platicas, inclusive faith-based gatherings, and of course the fiesta all fall under our pride umbrella. Join us in planning 2024's DC Latinx Pride! We need to build a strong pride team because World Pride is coming in 2025.

Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month LGBTQ+ Awards (Sept-Oct) During Hispanic Heritage Month, our LGBTQ+ Awards brings visibility to our Latinx LGBTQ+ leaders who embody the beautiful intersection of Latinidad and queer identity. Join us selecting awardees and planning our awards ceremony in 2024!

Mujeres en el Movimiento Awards (Feb-March) The Latinx History Project prides itself in carving out space for all parts of our community. The Mujeres en el Movimiento Awards was founded to educate the public on and celebrate the contributions of self-identifying Latina women in the LGBTQ+ movement. Join us selecting awardees and planning our awards ceremony in 2024!

Community Fundraising Committee (year-round) As a grassroots and volunteer-run organization quickly growing beyond Washington D.C. and the U.S. to meet the needs of our community, it is not always easy to catch all the funding opportunities that come our way. Join our Community Fundraising Committee and help the Latinx History Project bring in and manage the resources that will allow us to keep serving our communities.

DC Latinx Community Space Curating Team (year-round) Space is shelter, comfort, community, validation and so much more. In 2023, The Latinx History Project and the Trans Latinx DMV are coming together to bring a Latinx community space back to the district! Join our space curating team and help us make the best of this new home by working to curate events, gatherings, and resources that will bring our community together.

Federal Policy & Advocacy Committee (year-round) In 2023, the Latinx History Project was able to help organize the first convening of Latinx LGBTQ+ leaders in the White House to bring our policy issues to the forefront of the administration's agenda. Strategically rooted in Washington D.C. since our founding in 2000, we will continue to build on this advocacy work to refine federal policy priorities in collaboration with Latinx LGBTQ+ leaders. Join us in continuing to build out our policy priorities and planning our Congressional engagement strategies. We are excited to share that conversations and events with Members of Congress around our policy priorities are already in the works for 2024.

Cursos-Q Resource Committee (year-round) At a time when almost 500 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced in state legislatures across the U.S., many of which targeting our youth and their access to resources and education around their identities, we must act. It is crucial that we continue to get culturally tailored information to our young Latinx LGBTQ+ people as extremists attempt to isolate and force them into hiding. Latinx youth identify at LGBTQ+ at higher rates than other demographics, and Latin youth account for 28% of all U.S. students K-12 so it is clear that these resources are desperately needed for our youth to navigate who they are with all resources and context at their disposal. Join our Cursos-Q Resource Committee and help us continue to refine our educational resource materials for Latinx LGBTQ+ youth an allies. These resources will be turned into a digital resource hub on our website in 2024 for all people to access in English and Spanish.
