2024 Typographics TypeLab Presentation Proposal
The Typographics TypeLab (typographics.com/typelab) is an informal, multi-day, typography-focused program to complement to the main Typographics conference. Like the original TypeLab events Petr van Blokland co-organized at ATypI conferences in the 1990s, it is a place for people to meet and talk about type and design with an informal structure that allows more spontaneity and interaction than typical main stage conference events.

Typeface designers Petr van Blokland, Zrinka Buljubašić, Gen Ramírez, Kalapi Gajjar, Sirin Gunkloy, Jo Malinis, Sueh Li Tan, and YingTong Tan will curate, host and moderate TypeLab this year along with other guest moderators. 

This year's Typographics TypeLab will be held in-person at The Cooper Union on June 13 & 16, and online over Zoom on June 12. The TypeLab Asia channel will be online (dates and times TBD). The organizing team is inviting you to join in by presenting on a subject related to typography, type, design, production tools, design education or other related topics. 

Online presentations will be hosted over Zoom and most online sessions will be live-streamed to YouTube.

The TypeLab is entirely volunteer run and will be free of charge to all who participate. By agreeing to participate, you are agreeing to be broadcast by livestream with no compensation. The organizers are working in the spirit of creating a fun, educational event for our global design community. Event livestream archival recordings will be unlisted after 72 hours. This event is ephemeral, low-stakes, educational and relaxed. We hope that there will be plenty of room for surprises and spontaneity. 

Proposals must be respectful to the audience. Please avoid blatant advertising of products/services. Proposals will be chosen by the organizing team. We'll do our best to schedule you during your preferred time slot and day that you indicate. Please allow us a few weeks to review your proposal. We'll be in touch as soon as possible.

TypeLab is being planned to take place for 3 days loosely organized around these general topics. Which of the days best fits your presentation? We will be adding times and maybe days as we finalize host availability and hours. We've added a new option this year… trying an idea of gathering some Spanish language offerings into a block of time. This might mean adding a channel or maybe we'll manage to schedule the online things for Americas on one channel. Let's see.

Online presentations are recorded by YouTube when event is livestreamed. They will be remain viewable for up to 72 hours after the event and then settings will be changed to ‘private’.
