The only choice 6th graders have to make regarding related arts classes is to either take band or not take band. The other related arts classes will be assigned on a rotating schedule. I always get questions about what this means for you, so let me just try and answer some of the most common questions:
•
All band students will get a chance to try out all of the instruments at the beginning of next school year, so no decision on instrument choice is necessary at this time.
•
Band is a year-long class. Your child will still have the opportunity to experience the other Related Arts classes – just not quite as many.
•
Band students will continue their knowledge of reading music and learning to play an instrument. There will be a concert in the spring to demonstrate all that has been learned!
•
Parents will need to provide an instrument for their child, depending on the instrument. Instruments that are inherently expensive will be provided by the school for a small fee.
•
Middle school band prepares students for the exciting opportunities available when students join the nationally recognized Fort Mill High School Band program!
Band is great! Band students will quickly tell you that band is the highlight of their day! If you have any other questions regarding sixth grade band, please feel free to contact our band director, Sean Carney. I hope your child will consider joining band and have an awesome experience learning to play an instrument!
