Dawson Butte, located between Castle Rock and Larkspur, is a peaceful and inspiring area to visit, with an open, flowy, curvy trail that follows the natural contours of the land and takes us through forested areas and meadows.
This lovely little hike of about 5 miles is located about half-way between Castle Rock and Larkspur on the west side of I-25. The trail follows gently rolling terrain through mostly forested areas with open meadows and views of the Colorado Front Range with an elevation gain (and loss) of around 400’. Trail head is at 1753 Tomah Road, Castle Rock, CO.
Directions: If coming from the north, take I-25 south to exit 181, Frontage Rd; Plum Creek Pkwy; Wilcox St. Take the I-25 frontage road south to W. Tomah Rd, then turn west. Follow W. Tomah Rd to the trailhead parking lot.
If coming from the south, take I-25 north to exit 174, Tomah Rd. Take the I-25 frontage road north to W. Tomah Rd, then turn west. Follow W. Tomah Rd to the trailhead parking lot.
The trail head address is 1753 Tomah Rd, Castle Rock will get you to within about ¼ mile of the trailhead parking lot. Just continue around the bend on Tomah Rd and the trailhead is the parking lot on the right/west.Parking in the trailhead lot is free. Restrooms are available at the trailhead.
