Recruitment Question Forum
Engineers Without Borders UBC is a vast interdisciplinary team that spearheads a variety of initiatives that go beyond the hyper-technical work of typical engineering design teams. EWB projects create meaningful long-term impacts for the communities we work with. Our collaborative project-based approach enables us to foster community within our ranks and enhance the leadership and personal development of our members.

EWB UBC leads several projects a year. There is a tremendous amount of room for both new and returning members to create and lead their own projects and support existing initiatives. Our previous work ranges from educational outreach programs for Vancouver youth and sustainable technology development with international partners to student wellness events for the UBC community. We use our platform and the technical expertise of our members to formulate tangible solutions for critical societal issues then collaborate with both local and global community partners to bring those ideas to life.

Engi-YOU Wellness:

The purpose of Engi-YOU Wellness is to promote health and wellness within the student body by providing actionable tools and strategies to students undergoing personal and academic turmoil. Our aim is to assist students in addressing their challenges and provide a close-knit community and support system through action planning and stress management. The program provides a platform for students to share knowledge and experiences with other students. From sharing coping strategies to helping navigate daily stressors, students are able to find a voice, a family, and feel integrated within the community.

Youth Venture:

Youth Venture strives to build lasting connections with youth in the Greater Vancouver area and introduce high school students to the field of engineering. In particular, Youth Venture promotes students to think critically about current issues on both a local and global level. We aim to help students develop creative thinking and problem solving skills by exploring how engineering can be used to overcome current challenges. To achieve the goals of our venture, we plan to develop informative workshops for elementary schools, help high school students with their transition to university, and host design competitions based on real-world issues.

Smoke-free Homes:

Smoke Free Homes is a new venture with the goal of tackling socio-economic, environmental and health issues in rural Guatemala. Specifically, the project consists of providing Eco-Stoves for women and families around Guatemala that will enable them to enjoy a better quality of life by reducing expenses, providing safety and removing toxic chemicals from their homes. The project also plans to incorporate engineering design to improve the current model in order to make the stove more efficient and help tackle more problems faced by Guatemalans.
