I. To participate fully in all Program activities, including:

•Attend New Scholars Reception, to be held Thursday, April 13, 4-6 pm, in Ishi Courtyard, Dwinelle Hall.
• Orientation Retreat: Monday, May 22rd through Friday, May 26th, 2023, in person, near campus. I will get there no later than 9 AM on May 22rd and commit to being present through 5 pm on May 26th. Programming will go approximately from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day, with a few hours off some afternoons. Scholars are encouraged but not required to stay in the retreat hotel.
• Summer Whole Group Meetings: twice during the summer.
• Summer Small Group Meetings: Every two weeks.
• Summer bcourses updates: Every two weeks
• Fall Research Seminar: Fridays, 3-5 pm. Even if I take the seminar for no credit, I will attend all meetings and complete all requirements by the specified deadlines.
• Research Conference: January 11-12, 2024, at a venue near campus. I will attend the conference in its entirety, present the results of my research or creative work, and participate in a formal panel practice in RRR week in December 4 - 8, 2023, and at least one additional one in January 8 - 10, 2024.
•Spring Writing Seminar: Fridays 3-5 pm. Even if I take the seminar for no credit, I will complete all requirements by the specified deadlines (unless I am a Fall 2023 graduate and have finished my thesis).
• Volunteer Service: perform 10 hours of volunteer service to the Program (i.e., office administrative assistance, speaking at undergrad research events, help w/ recruiting new cohort/advising applicants, or similar tasks).

II. To accept the requirements governing UC Berkeley student financial aid. I understand that:

• My academic year stipend replaces loan and/or work-study awards but does not change the total size of my financial aid package. If I do receive less than $3600 of loan and workstudy combined, I understand I may not be able to receive my entire academic year stipend.
• The maximum amount awarded for fall and spring combined is $3600 ($1800 per semester), if I am registered and working on my Haas Scholars project both semesters.
• If I am a Fall 2023 graduate or will not be working on my Haas Scholars project in the spring due to study abroad, etc., I will be eligible for a maximum living stipend of up to $1800 for the year, depending on financial need.

III. To make the Haas Scholars Program my primary full-time activity during Summer 2023, foregoing employment and summer course enrollment. I understand that I may not commit my time to other projects during the summer, and that I may not simultaneously accept the Haas Scholars award and other funding awards unless I have received prior written permission from the Program Office. (Exception: Firebaugh Scholars may also be Haas Scholars, but they receive only the Haas Scholars funding).

I accept the above requirements regarding activities other than Haas Scholars research and commitments during summer 2023.

IV. To limit employment to ten hours per week for the semester/s in which I am a Haas Scholar, unless I have received explicit written exemption from the program office. I understand that up to ten hours per week are permitted, but that all employment during the academic year is discouraged.

V. To be enrolled in UC Berkeley classes on the Berkeley campus and enrolled in sufficient units, during the semester/s that I am a Haas Scholar, to be eligible for financial aid.

VI. To enroll in a thesis course (strongly preferred, esp. honors thesis) or an independent study course (199) for at least 3 units in conjunction with my research project for EACH semester in which I am a Haas Scholar and am receiving an academic year stipend.

VII. To submit documents and materials in a complete and timely manner. These include, but are not limited to:

• A project abstract and preliminary photo, to be submitted to this google form (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf8w1mLtQalSL3r0kXQmkCfdfDWhFT9_Q0fVtQcF-aTarj51A/viewform) by March 28, 2023. (Photo ideally is project-related, but any good quality photo OK)
• High resolution and high quality "scholar in action" photo for the web site by the first Friday of Fall 2023.
• Meet with your faculty advisor to present your progress during the previous period and plan for the next period, and have them sign a mentor signature progress document: June, September, and December.
• Progress and Budget reports and meetings with the Program Manager in September and December 2023.
• A full (very rough OK) draft of my final product in mid-November, 2023
• My final product (thesis or media related to a creative effort), all remaining receipts and accounting, and a final exit survey and meeting on or before the last day of the spring semester, 2024.
• If my receipts do not account for all budgeted expenses, I will return all unaccounted for funding.

Failure to complete all of the requirements above may result in forfeiture of your Haas Scholar funding award.
