Future Telling: Science + Fiction Mini Conference

Saturday, July 27 from 1:30 PM to 4 PM at Open Books (West Loop), 651 W. Lake St. Chicago, IL 60661

Join STEM Read and experts in writing and STEM for a fun, fast-paced mini-conference. We’ll explore current research on everything from economics to disaster management to codes and ciphers and get insights into writing books and stories that incorporate science, technology, engineering, and math.

Speakers include Kate Hannigan (The Detective’s Assistant, The Cape), Lex Thomas (The Quarantine Series), Tammy Batson (NIU Economics), and researchers from Argonne National Laboratory.

The event will include a panel discussion, small group ask-me-anything sessions with the authors and experts, and Ignite Talks presented by interns engaged in research at Argonne National Laboratory.

This event is free and open to the public, but space is limited. Please RSVP! We also encourage you to bring a gently used book to donate to Open Books to support their community arts and literacy programs.

This event is geared toward adults interested in writing and STEM. Educators and librarians are welcome to attend and professional development hours are available.

Special thanks to NIU’s Founder’s Memorial Library, SCBWI, Lerner Publishing, and SFWA!
