Rising 8th Grade Course Registration Instructions

Welcome to The Stony Brook School! You have made a great choice to join a community of scholars who bring wisdom and imagination together to cultivate great vision in the next generation of leaders. New students will fill out course requests soon after they are officially enrolled. If you are a returning student, we are excited to help you plan for next year. Now is the time to start thinking about next year’s courses.

In 8th grade, the course selection process is pretty straightforward. Students are automatically registered for all required courses, so they will not appear in this form. These include English, science, history, Bible and Math. Your math course will be based on transcript evaluation and/or a placement test.

In this form you will choose a World Language class, along with your Fine Arts.

8th grade students are also required to take a full year of an arts course. Students may choose between a Middle School Visual Arts course, our Middle School Chorus, or our Chamber Ensemble. To take Chamber Ensemble, you need to have prior experience in either a woodwind, brass, string, or percussion instrument.

Once you have completed your schedule and submitted it, if you and/or your parents still have specific questions regarding your schedule, please contact the Registrar at registrar@sbs.org.

Choose from Latin I, Mandarin Chinese I, Spanish I, or French I unless you qualify by placement test for a higher level. Please note many schools have a "1A" version of a language which will not be comparable to level 1 of a language at SBS. In these cases we typically enroll students in level 1 of that language.
