A Pocket Magic Flute

For grades 4-8

Winter/Spring 2024

In partnership with Pocket Opera

In this 45-minute animated/live action film adaptation of Mozart’s The Magic Flute, set in Africa, students learn about African culture, Mozart, The Age of Enlightenment, singing, and careers in opera and animation.

Produced by San Francisco’s Pocket Opera in partnership with Lorraine Hansberry Theater, San Francisco State University, Oakland Symphony Youth Orchestra and Sacramento Youth Symphony, this offering promotes thoughtful conversation and a new awareness about artistic collaboration.

This program consists of two parts: your screening of the initial film and a second assembly or school visit featuring the 10-minute documentary and live Q&A with associated artists.
