Humane Teen Club is a youth development program that provides opportunities for teens to explore issues in animal welfare, build leadership and public speaking skills, and make some new friends (furry ones, too). This program prepares teens to become responsible representatives of Seattle Humane and its mission, and is the only pathway to becoming a volunteer before your 18th birthday. The program runs September through May each year on select Saturday mornings.

-- Be between the ages of 13 and 17 as of October 1, 2021.
-- Demonstrate interest in animal welfare, animal companionship and volunteerism.
-- Show a positive, respectful attitude toward peers, staff, volunteers and animals.
-- Be able to work well independently and in groups.
-- Commit to attending HTC meetings, as well as completing club assignments and a service project in the community.
-- Submit a completed application form.
-- Submit a letter of recommendation from a school or community program leader who has known you for at least one year.
-- Attend one HTC informational session with a parent or guardian and take part in a brief personal interview.

To start the application process, teens should fully complete this form, including responses to the short essay questions.  In addition, teens must:

    • Submit one letter of recommendation from a school or community program leader by the application deadline (Friday, August 20, 2021)
    • Attend (with a parent or supporting adult) one virtual HTC information session and meet with a program facilitator for a 15-minute interview

To be considered, teens must have submitted their application and letter of recommendation by 5pm on Friday, August 20, 2021. Admission is competitive, and application materials are evaluated based on the program requirements above. Notification of acceptance will be emailed to teens starting Monday, September 6th.
