All sixth grade students are given the option of signing up for band or strings. The school provides free instruction and music during the academic day and there is no interruption to core academic instruction.

There are several things to consider when choosing music courses for your child:

•  Students are expected to make a full year commitment.
•  Students who choose strings or band need to make a commitment to practicing their instruments at home.
•  Parents must take responsibility for the maintenance and repair of the instrument when needed.
•  Students do not miss any academic classes for band or strings.
•  Students on free/reduced lunch may rent select instruments from the school for $20/year. (Please ask Ms. Mitchell (strings teacher) or Dr. Kohut (band teacher) for the required paperwork.
     
Parents are highly encouraged to rent from a music store or rent from school using the free/reduced lunch program.  Instruments purchased from the internet frequently require assembly and are not functional.  Learning an instrument is challenging! This year more than any other it is vital that the instrument works correctly. Parents purchasing instruments from the internet will need to go to the music store to get the instrument assembled and repaired when needed.
