UW Accessibility & Dark Patterns Interest Form

Thank you for your interest! We're still accepting submissions; however, due to our overwhelming response, we will not be able to follow up with everyone.

Hi! We are a team of accessibility researchers at the University of Washington.

To help design better accessibility support, we are exploring: (1) the relationship among dark patterns and accessibility barriers in online services, and (2) the disproportionate negative impacts of dark patterns on the experiences of people with disabilities.
A Dark Pattern is an interface design choice implemented to influence a person into performing a behavior that they likely would not otherwise perform.
As part of this work, we’re hoping to talk with people with disabilities who use assistive technology (e.g., a screen reader) when using online services. If you participate in this study, you will be compensated with a $30 Amazon Gift Card for a 1 hour virtual interview.

If you are interested in participating, please fill out this form and we will follow up with you via e-mail. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Aaleyah Lewis at alewis9@cs.washington.edu.

Thanks for your interest!

Additional Comments / Questions / Concerns?

Questions can also be sent via email to Aaleyah Lewis at alewis9@cs.washington.edu.

If we are able to include you in the study, we will also reach out to ask about any access concerns or accommodation requests. Our default setup will be a Zoom call with an option for auto-captioning, but we can make other arrangements (e.g., other video-call platforms or in-person at the University of Washington, a captioner, an interpreter).
