Dr. Marcks is a Senior Program Director at the Ocean Defense Initiative, a not-for-profit organization which promotes US leadership on ocean-based climate solutions and defends against US policies that are harmful for ocean, climate, and communities. She completed her Knauss fellowship in early 2024 after working on the House Natural Resources Committee subcommittee on Water, Wildlife, & Fisheries. Prior to that, she earned her PhD in Oceanography at our own Graduate School of Oceanography here at URI.
Dr. Marcks has experience in the federal ocean and policy landscape in D.C., and is able to speak on challenges and opportunities that we face in the current landscape. Additionally, Dr. Marcks is able to give insight on how to maintain one's wellness when working with dynamic ocean and coastal policy.
