The Bajoosh Run for Diabetes Prevention will be taking place July 28 to August 1, beginning in Long Plain First Nation and ending in Keeseekoowenin First Nation, Manitoba.
“Bajoosh” was a great grandfather of Jerry Daniels, and was the first member of the family to carry the Daniels name. Grand Chief delivers a message, “We are naming this run after Bajoosh because he was a messenger that ran from community to community, establishing and maintaining communications between the neighbouring tribes. He was also a well-known medicine man, and in the spirit of keeping his legacy and tradition alive, we hope to encourage and promote healthier ways of living.”
The route from Long Plain FN to Keeseekoowenin FN was selected in anticipation of the SCO and Grand Council Treaty #3 co-hosted Anishinaabe Nation Gathering being held near Clear Lake from August 13 - 16, 2019. This gathering is an attempt to bring together Anishinaabe people from across Canadian and American territories (Turtle Island), in a way that is closer to the traditional ways of our ancestors.
