Parents,
With information technology expanding and evolving rapidly, it is very important to keep in mind that the use of technology and information must be managed responsibly, setting boundaries, and limits.
Please review and sign the Royal Oak Acceptable Use Agreement. This document will be valid for one year from the date of signing. Your child's teacher will review this agreement with the class during the first week of school. Students will sign the form in class. Our use of technology is governed by our overall philosophy of respect for each other and for our school property.
The Royal Oak School network and related technology is owned by the school. Use of the Royal Oak network and related technology is a privilege that comes with responsibilities.
Our Code of Conduct rest on this foundation of respect:

CODE OF CONDUCT
At all times, the use of computers at Royal Oak will follow the established behaviour code: Is it safe? Is it kind? Is it appropriate?
Students shall acknowledge that the computers are to be used for educational and research purposes only. Instant messaging text is not used in Google Classrooms.
At all times, students will respect the property of others. This includes files, notes, and ideas.
Computers are to be treated with respect. Students should ensure that their hands are clean, and that there is no food or drink near the computers.
Initially the laptop computers are to remain in the classroom. As the students become more familiar with using the laptops, they may occasionally be granted special permission to take their laptops to other areas of the school. The computers are to remain in the Royal Oak School building.

PASSWORDS
Students shall access the Royal Oak network only with an authorized username and password as provided by the school
Students should not changed the passwords established by the school
Students are held responsible for all activity that takes place within their account

COMPUTERS
Computers shall remain on school property and shall be shared cooperatively between students who are responsible for the care of the machines
Desktop settings and controls, as well as the outside of the computers are not to be altered.
All files stored on the computer must be school related.
Printing from computers must be approved by a teacher.
Computers are only available at indoor recess with permission from the teacher.
Caution must be exercised when carrying the laptops and setting them down.
Laptops and iPads must be stored in the laptop cart and charged after each use.

COPYRIGHT
Students are not permitted to illegally access, download, store, or share software, media, books or any other materials or copy, transfer, rename, add or to delete information or programs belonging to others.

INTERNET
Teacher’s permission is required for the use of the Internet. The Internet shall be used for the exchange of information for the purpose of research and education.
Files, including music and video files, will not be downloaded unless permission is provided from the teacher. All information downloaded will be for the use of education and research.
Students will not access personal email accounts or non-educational games from school computers.
Students will never give out personal information such as an address or telephone number when using the Internet.
Students are advised that if anything unexpected occurs when they are on the Internet, they should immediately inform an adult.
Teachers will be aware of the history of Internet sites that have been visited. I understand and accept the above policy.

GUIDELINES FOR ONLINE SAFETY
Be aware of what is posted online. Do not post or repost anything that may reflect badly on you or your school community.
Make sure that your comments and posts are constructive and don’t hurtless.
Protect your personal information
Alert school staff if you experience or witness threatening or inappropriate online behaviour
