CONNORS Parent/Guardian Waiver & Hoboken Board of Education: Field Trip Permission Slip Authorization-Museum Field Trip
In gratitude for the generosity of the Hoboken Public Education Foundation all Hoboken Public School students in grades K-8 will enjoy a shared cultural and creative experience through visiting and engaging with Museums from New Jersey and New York.

This year is proudly deemed The Year of the Arts. Each event held throughout the year has been and will be rooted in art and creative experiences. As I extend these engaging creative experiences into Field Trips for the year, I am pleased to announce that the Year of the Arts Field Trips are here! 

In honor of the theme of the year, all grades K-8 will visit museums across New Jersey and New York. As some of your dates are fast approaching, I am excited to reveal your Connors field trip dates, museum experiences, and destinations! 

For each K-5 museum trips, all students will receive an engaging and hands on experiences. Students will delight in their themed guided tours, workshops, planetarium shows, and guided educational play opportunities. 


What do I need to know? 
  • Transportation: Busses will prepared to depart from Connors between 9:30 - 10:00 AM and return by 2:00-2:30 PM
  • Lunch: Bagged lunch will be provided by Chartwells, however you are welcome to bring your own bagged lunch. 
  • Timeliness: Please ensure that you drop your child to school on time in the morning

ENGAGING WORKSHOPS AND TOURS:

Guided ActivityAfter the discussion and engagement with different artworks and pieces of literature, students will have an opportunity to create their own art interpretation surrounding the question, "What does home feel and look like to you?" (Build into the 90 minute Between the Pages Experience)

TourBetween the Pages: 100 Years of New York Life through Children’s Literature (90 minutes) From classics like Eloise and Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile to more recent stories like Chinatown and Gowanus Dogs, children’s picture books take us on an imaginative journey to explore lives both similar to and different from our own. On this field trip, students will experience the ultimate story time as they listen to excerpts from stories set in New York City and hear an interview with William Low, author of Chinatown, as he shares about his upbringing and relationship to his father’s Bronx laundromat. Students will join in on the fun of storytelling by producing a miniature storybook capturing their own New York City stories. This program is part of the Museum’s 100th anniversary year and focuses on social and emotional learning as we explore the city we call home.

WORKSHOPS AND TOURS:

Workshop-Faith Ringgold-inspired Story Quilts: Document the destinations that make the city home.

Tour-I Dream of NYC: 100 Years of New York Life through Art-Have you ever seen a dress that looks like the Empire State Building? How about a quilt that tells a story of a little girl’s dream of flying over the George Washington Bridge? In this field trip, students will explore how painters, fashion designers, and photographers have used their imaginations to create art inspired by NYC’s public destinations and private refuges. After viewing the exhibition, students will create their own Faith Ringgold-inspired story quilts to document the destinations that make the city their own. This program is part of the Museum’s 100th anniversary year and focuses on social and emotional learning as we explore the city we call home.


GRADE: 5TH GRADE

Tour: Highlights of The Newark Museum of ArtGet to know The Newark Museum of Art on a “sampler” tour featuring museum highlights from its wide-ranging collections, explore the historic Ballantine House and the consecrated Tibetan altar.

Would you be interested in chaperoning your child's fieldtrip? If so, please be reminded that all parent chaperones will need to:

-Provide their own transportation.
-Cover all costs of the field trip including their travel and entrance tickets.
-Stay with their assigned group and are not permitted to take their child off on their own.

-Meet us at the destination- Parents/Guardians may follow the bus but from their own vehicle. If guardians choose to follow the bus from their own car, students must ride the bus and are not permitted to ride with their guardians.
