2021 Cultural Blues Nomination
Please read the following information carefully.

The purpose of the Cultural Blues is to celebrate the Arts and recognise Contribution, Leadership and Achievement Awards in Visual Arts (Painting, Design and Photography), Performing Arts (Drama, Speech, Dance and Kapa Haka) and Music. i.e. all-round education. Please read the criteria before filling out the form.

You may nominate yourself or someone else to receive a Cultural Service and/or Cultural Achievement Blue by filling out this form. Please ensure all sections of the form are completed as required. All nominations must be completed by 4 pm on Friday, 10th September. Nominations will not be accepted after this date.

Nominees will be notified if their application has been successful.

Cultural Junior Achievement Blue
Students eligible for this award will have gained considerable achievement in their chosen field. This award can be achieved yearly for Years 9 and 10.

Depending on the discipline the student’s achievement will be measured by:

-The audition or selection process undertaken in gaining the achievement.
-Successful representation of the school at a provincial or above level. Students will be expected to have won at a Southland/Otago competition or achieved at a high level in a South Island or national discipline.

Examples are:
-Students receiving Honours Plus in their area of the arts
-National nominations in their area of the arts
-Distinction awards in their area of the arts
-Regional/National finalists or winners for in their area of the arts like: Rockquest, Sheilah Winn, One Act Play, various jazz festivals and Big Break.

Share a brief summary of nominee's achievements.
Cultural Achievement Blue
Students eligible for this award will have gained considerable achievement in their chosen field. This award can be achieved yearly for Years 11, 12 or 13.

Depending on the discipline the student’s achievement will be measured by:

-The audition or selection process undertaken in gaining the achievement.
-Successful representation of the school at a provincial or above level. Students will be expected to have won at a Southland/Otago competition or achieved at a high level in a South Island or national discipline.
Examples are:
-Students receiving Honours/Honours Plus in their area of the Arts
-National nominations in their area of the Arts
-Distinction awards in their area of the Arts
-Regional/National finalists or winners for in their area of the arts like Rockquest, Sheilah Winn, One Act Play, various jazz festivals and Big Break.
-Dance - this may be in Technical Jazz, Performance Jazz, Hip Hop or Contemporary Dance (All students who have achieved 90% or above in their respective examinations)

Cultural Service Blue
To be able to be nominated for this award, the student must have been involved in the relevant field that they are being nominated in for 3 or more years. It is envisaged that their role has included significant contribution and/or leadership. This Service Blue can only be received once. There can be some leeway or exception to the rule in the case that 3 years contribution was not/is not possible but they have still shown significant leadership and contribution. If the contribution from that student exceeds the certificate level then they should be able to access this award.

The student:  
-will have been continually committed to their field throughout preparation/practice, and performance/competition.
-will have given service back to the school community e.g. mentoring, leadership roles.

Some Examples:
-Leaders or mentors of... Musical, Showquest, Drama, One Act Play, Sheilah Winn Shakespeare, Jazz Band,  
-Performing Arts mentoring or leadership
-Visual Arts mentoring or leadership

Cultural Commendation Certificate
This is NOT a Blue award so it can be given to students who have shown contribution, leadership or achievement (in skill or talent) within the school for a particular year.  E.g. WHS Art Exhibitions, Photography Awards, WHS Musical, Jazz Band and Ensemble, local achievements, Stage Challenge, Dance, etc. These awards can change from year to year and are intended for those who deserve acknowledgement but not at a Blue level.
