Committee Description:
The ECA Equity Advisory Committee will ensure ECA’s commitment to climate and environmental justice through the lens of anti-racism in all our organizational efforts. The committee will serve three primary functions:
1. Establish and implement goals and an evaluation process for all ECA campaigns, policies, and actions, and suggest specific ways to improve our effectiveness in maintaining equity and inclusivity. Provide regular evaluation reports to the Coordinating Council.
2. Identify organizations that, like ECA, are committed to eliminating racism and economic injustice in climate policies and actions, and support a fair-for-all transition to sustainable energy practices. Make recommendations to the Collaborations Committee for relationships with such organizations.
3. Monitor and evaluate the ways in which ECA utilizes the Jemez Principles, an element of the organizational values we have committed to carry out.

This committee will meet twice per month (or as otherwise determined). Committee members may attend other ECA committee and/or project meetings, and/or meetings with external collaborating organizations. One Equity Advisory Committee member will represent the committee on the ECA Coordinating Council.
The Equity Advisory Committee is open to ECA members and those from other collaborating organizations. Applicants will complete an online recruitment questionnaire, and will be screened and approved by the ECA Coordinating Council.
Definitions:
Climate justice is a term used to frame global warming as an ethical and political issue, rather than one that is purely environmental or physical in nature.
Environmental justice is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies.
Anti-racism can be defined as some form of focused and sustained action, with the intent to change a system or an institutional policy, practice, or procedure, behavior or idea which has racist effects.
