Cohort 15 - Local Phenology Leader Course Application (Fall 2023)
This application is for the 10-week, 60-80 hour, Nature's Notebook Local Phenology Leader Certification Course sponsored by the USA-NPN. This course will teach you how to create and implement a long-term Nature's Notebook phenology monitoring program at your site for participants of all ages, volunteers, and/or staff. The purpose of the course is to help you develop a sustainable phenology observation program that meets the programmatic needs of your organization, whether those needs be educational, scientific, or management related. With an established program in place you will also be contributing valuable observations of plant and animal phenology to the National Phenology Database. Once you are certified, you will be listed as a Certified Leader on our Certified Local Phenology Leader page, and your account will have a flag notifying data end users that you have been certified.
The cost of the course is $55, which covers the cost of the certification, a copy of the Botany Primer educational resource and a Nature's Notebook name tag. The $55 fee is non-refundable. Submission of this application does not guarantee you a spot in the course, applicants are accepted on a first-come first serve basis.
We will accept 20 participants per cohort. Any applications submitted past the first 20 will be notified and put on a waiting list. If there is a waiting list, and there are multiple applicants from the same organization, then only one applicant from that organization will be able to participate in the course. If this is the case, we will contact all applicants from that organization to decide who will participate.
Complete this application form by September 18, 2023 to be considered for the Fall 2023 cohort. If you are selected, payment will be due by September 25 at midnight. The Course will begin on Friday, September 29, and run through Friday, December 1, 2023.
Thanks for your interest in becoming a certified Local Phenology Leader!
