Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program Faculty Mentor Application
The Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) seeks to cultivate research partnerships between SJSU faculty and undergraduate students who are first-time frosh and transfers, and 2nd year students. UROP aims to integrate students into university life academically and socially and providing students with structured support from peers, mentors, and faculty.

WE ARE RECRUITING FACULTY RESEARCH PROJECTS FOR 2021-2022

Would you like help getting a new research project started or expediting a current project? Do you want to gain experience mentoring undergraduates? In August 2021, we will be launching our inaugural UROP cohort. We would love for you to be part of this journey.

UROP is now accepting research project submissions for the upcoming academic year. Due to Covid19 circumstances, we encourage you to think about the elements of your project that can be done remotely and those that require in-person work. This will be helpful as decisions are being made about students returning fully or partially to campus in the Fall.

Program highlights:
UROP is open to first and second year students and community college transfer students who are not only learning about the institution, but are beginning their exploratory process into the fields of RSCA. Beginning in September, you will have the opportunity to interview and select the students you wish to invite into your project.

Students in UROP participate in the program the entire academic year from August-May and will be provided the following:
- UROP covers the students’ compensation through work-study funds or academic credit
- UROP provides research skill building workshops, thorough understanding of working with faculty and research as an interdisciplinary field, as well as peer mentoring support to assist them through the process

Faculty who participate in UROP will receive the following:
- Supplementary research funding of $250 - $500 per student is available for mentors to cover research related expenses
- Orientation, training, and support from UROP staff
