Title: Racism, Equity & Trauma
Date: October 20, 2021
Speaker: Joel Ristuccia, M.Ed.
Description: Systemic forces impact our public schools , including racism and trauma, which generate a number of inequities that preclude large numbers of students from succeeding in school. Understanding the interrelated impacts of these systemic factors and the affects they have on students is the foundation for understanding the change necessary to create public schools that are based on equity, anti-racist principles and trauma sensitivity. This presentation will examine the foundations and intersectionality of racism and trauma, noting the impacts on our schools and student learning. A framework for generating strategies and processes to address these impacts will be presented and discussed on both a school wide and individual student support basis.
