The Oxford Scientist is the student science publication of Oxford. We would like to create a new, casual, informal platform for scientists across different departments to come together and share fun science using a board and some pens. We want to break cross-disciplinary boundaries and bridge the gap between undergraduates and postgraduates to encourage science communication. You don't need to have a fully prepared talk, make it more like a conversation to explain what you do to non-experts. Be it a long-term research project or a short project you have been involved with. And it doesn't have to be completely original, new work (because we know science is a game of patience and it takes time to get there). So, regardless of your level of experience or area of research, if you have some science to talk about with other science enthusiasts, we want to hear from you!

We want to make Chalk Talks a means of taking a quick break away from your desk, lectures or labs for 45 minutes - no major time commitments involved. The format: 1 x 5 minute talk plus 10 mins for a conversation with the audience. There will be time for about 3 speakers per session. And yes you can give multiple talks over separate days!
